Day 4: Cape to Cape Hiking Trail

Day 4 - Contos to Deepdene Campsite ~32km

I got off early and made my way to Hamilin bay, said bye to Nigel thinking I would catch up with him an Hamelin, but unfortunately he never caught up or got a lift somewhere since he had to be back in Bunbury the next day. Early in my walk I encountered a wild emu and a huge snake crossing the track. I have footage of both which I will upload later.

The day was pretty tough, before Hamilin bay there is a long stretch of beach which plays with your mind. You can see exactly where the end destination is, and in your head you know technically it is 7km away, or about 2 hours walk, but you're also like, nah its not that far, I can see it. On top of that you are walking on sand that changes from nice and hard and relatively flat, to steep and super soft. I swear my thinking went from I'll get there in no time, to I'll never make it, to I wish I could hitch hike on boats, to I should buy a boat.

Arriving in Hamillin bay I had a nice swim and the park owners let me have my first shower in 3 days. I bummed around for a while, chatted to a few other travellers including a bunch of guys who thought it would be a wise idea to walk the Cape to Cape with surfboards, I can't begin to imagine how much they would regret that decision later. By around 3pm I left to the next campsite, Deepdene. Arrived before dark and there was no rock in site to set my tarp up so I just camped beneath the stars that night.

Day 5 here

Ready to tackle the day ahead

The start of the beach walk, Hamilin bay at the far end, doesn't look too far does it?
