The small things add up

Something to think about when setting a budget. There will always be little things you don't really think about in preparation, but eventually they all add up, weight wise and cost wise.

Soo, if I were to make a quick list off the top of my head:

batteries $10
inner tubes $20
extra tools (chainwhip, lockring remover, cone wrench etc) ~$100
sunscreen $15
towel $20
notebook $5
fenders $40
tires $60
lights $40
bike computer $60
new brake pads $30
new cables $20
toiletries $30

it all quickly adds up. $450 total for a list that took me 2 minutes to write.

*Edit* I should add that once you have most these things (and all the items in the previous posts below), the running cost of touring isn't too bad, and if you buy quality parts, you should really be set up for life.

So theoretically, when I get home all I have to do is wash my clothes, repack my panniers and I should be ready to go for another tour whenever I feel I have time.

Heya

Interesting to read what is your plan for the next trip as preparation is vital for bike touring. I took train over the nullarbor plain on the way back to Perth. It was long dead straight road with almost the same scenery all way, which would be perfect for bike touring or.... anyway, I will catch up with you at the polo this weekend! Catchya soon
